UFC featherweights, Charles Rosa and Darrick Minner, will duke it out on the main card for UFC Vegas 19. The card is headlined by heavyweights Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis and comes off the back of a successful pay-per-view event. Chiefly, the aforementioned 145-pound bout is placed strategically at the mid-point of the card due to the explosive tendencies of the combatants.
The bout has ‘Fight of the Night’ written all over it on paper.
The featherweight division is bursting at the seam with contenders, so much so that the next contenders are defined. There are several eligible candidates and both Rosa and Minner will want to insert themselves into the conversation. Moreover, the UFC has traditionally got behind fighters with fan-friendly styles which plays in their favor.
UFC featherweights: Charles Rosa vs Darrick Minner
The 13-4 fighter in Rosa is 3-2 in his last five outings and is coming off a win against Kevin Aguilar by a split decision. He comes in with a 69-inch reach and relies on a switch stance movement to launch a pitter-patter offense. Furthermore, he rounds in with 37% and 33% striking and takedown accuracy. These are metrics that he’ll want to improve.
Darrick Minner last fought back in September, where he submitted TJ Laramie by Guillotine choke in round one. The victory snapped a two-fight skid in the UFC that came at the hands of Grant Dawson and Herbert Burns. Chiefly, the orthodox fighter with an identical reach to Rosa heads into the bout with plenty of pro-experience at 25-11.
‘Boston Strong’ Rosa vs Minner: Striking and Grappling breakdown
Charles Rosa has landed 3.41 significant strikes per minute, which rounds out in comparison to Minner’s 3.61. Not to mention, Rosa edges out a less defensive game, especially on the back foot as he absorbs almost twice the amount of strikes as his opponent.
As for the grappling, Minner’s ground advantage is clear as his average submission attempts per 15 minutes speak for themselves. Darrick Minner stands at about 4.5 and Charles Rosa is 0.9, so he’ll be keen to keep the fight standing. It may be tough with his 45% takedown defense statistics.
Prediction: Charles Rosa to claim a unanimous decision victory
