For a long time, the sturdy welterweight Mikey Garcia has expressed his interest in fighting Manny Pacquiao. He wishes to establish his legacy in the stacked 147-pound division, and this is principally why he’s rooting for a fight with the Filippino Senator.
But the probability of Garcia fighting Pacquiao seems to diminish by the moment as the latter is in talks to battle Terence Crawford.
Recently, Garcia’s trainer, Robert Garcia, spoke on the same with Fight Hub TV.
He said, “I know that he wants to fight in May or June. And if it’s against Pacquiao or not, he’ll be fighting so. If it’s not Pacquiao, he will fight somebody else. But it will be sometime in late May or June.”
‘Pacman’ didn’t compete for the whole of 2020. And now his promotion is looking to stage a massive title fight between the latter and the WBO welterweight champ, Terence Crawford.
Consequently, in his above statement, Robert Garcia cleared that the 33-year-old will take anyone else in line if the ‘Pacman’ fight doesn’t come to fruition.
Mikey Garcia vs Manny Pacquiao – will this fight happen by 2021 end?
The Filippino Senator might undeniably be in the final stepping of his career. Inasmuch, he’s looking to stage colossal fights to make his already decorated boxing resume even more captivating.
Citing the same, if Pacquiao fights Terence Crawford by June, then he might be open to contend with anyone for year-end.
But the chances of him fighting Mikey Garcia look pretty slim. Because there was no tremendous interest from the veteran’s corner to battle out Garcia earlier as well.
Yet, it’ll be interesting to see how things shape up for the duo in the coming few months. Garcia will be keen to take on ‘Pacman’ but even if he doesn’t get his hands on the latter, he’ll look for another rugged challenge for sure.
