Aljamain Sterling is one of the best bantamweights in the world at the moment. ‘Funkmaster’ was scheduled to take on Petr Yan before the end of the year. However, visa issues prevented Yan from entering the country due to which the two men could not fight.
The bantamweight division has been on fire lately. A talent stacked division with a host of fights clamoring to make it to the top. The likes of Aljamain Sterling, Cory Sandhagen, Cody Garbrandt are all top bantamweights.
Add to that the return of TJ Dillashaw next month. He has been a popular target for bantamweights to call out this weekend? The likes of Jose Aldo and Rob Font both called out TJ Dillashaw after their wins at UFC Vegas 17.
Aljamain Sterling pokes fun at TJ Dillashaw’s PED usage
After leaning that multiple fighters had called him out after UFC Vegas 17, the former champion tweeted, “I heard everyone is calling me out, cause they all know that’s my belt @ufc”
The tweet did not sit well with Aljamain Sterling, who responded with a video with the caption, “Needles are a hell of a drug”
Dillashaw was suspended in January 2019 after he was was found guilty of using performance-enhancing drugs for his fight against Henry Cejudo. USADA suspended the former champion for two years, and he will be eligible to fight in January 2021.
Therefore, it is no surprise that many fighters have been calling him out since he is eligible to fight next month.
The former champion will rejoin a bantamweight division that looks a lot different from when he left it. Petr Yan is now the champion and will be taking on Sterling early next year.
The likes of Jose Aldo, Dominick Cruz, and long-time rival Cody Garbrandt are all viable fight options for Dillashaw when he returns to competition. There are a lot of interesting fights on the horizon at 135-pounds for MMA fans.
