UFC veteran fighter Diego Sanchez took to social media and announced that he’s set for his final UFC fight. ‘The Nightmare’ has been chomping at the bit to scrap, and he’s made some massive call-outs as of late. Sanchez has fired shots at Conor McGregor before his loss to Jake Matthews and most recently took aim at James Krause.
However, it seems like the UFC legend has had a change of heart when it comes to choosing his opponent. Chiefly, it seems like Sanchez has re-evaluated his entire decision to fight, period. He’s been on the roster since 2005 and has seen a laundry list of fighters in his run. Fans will be awaiting the next move of Sanchez following his latest tweet.
Furthermore, it’s a given that Diego Sanchez will want to fight a big-name opponent for his final match-up. He’s handed over the reins of his next fight booking to UFC President Dana White, who’s certainly known to stack up fan-friendly fights.
UFC legend Diego Sanchez: Where does he go from here?
Following his last fight, fans have been calling for Sanchez to hang-up his gloves due to the punishment he took. The 39-year-old is arguably not as sharp as he once was, and it’s easy to see why fans want to see him quit while he’s ahead.
However, there’s no doubt that his retirement came as a disappointment for the fans at the same time. MMA veterans often undergo the unfortunate fate of having to be carried out of the cage towards the end of their run.
Not to mention, he’s been facing some of the most dangerous up-and-coming fighters, often to his detriment. After spending over 15 years as a contracted UFC athlete, there’s no denying that there’s some serious mileage put on Sanchez’s body. He’ll be keen to end his run in emphatic fashion and leave a lasting image for the sport.
The TUF 1 veteran should ideally face another fighter who’s been in the UFC for a meaningful period. Facing an up and comer will be challenging considering that he’s not performing to the same capacity as before. Additionally, facing a fellow veteran will provide fan-friendly interactions for followers of the sport to reminisce on.
