Charles Leclerc had an incredible first season with Ferrari and claimed eight podium finishes and two race wins in 2019. However, in 2020, there was a drop in the Maranello outfit’s performance and the Monegasque could manage only two podium finishes with no race wins.
During his third year with Ferrari, the team has performed better than expected in the opening race. There are clear signs of improvement as both Maranello drivers finished within the top-10 in Bahrain. However, their chances of race wins and regular podium finishes still seem highly doubtful.
In a recent interview, Leclerc was answering a question inviting comparison with opposition teams on the grid. Instead of the negatives, the Monegasque focused on one key aspect that makes the Maranello outfit stand out in Formula 1.
“I know what they will never have and that only we have: the Tifosi. Millions of fans around the world. The passion that Ferrari creates, they [other teams] will always envy it.”
“I was very young when I took the opportunity to watch the Monaco GP from a friend’s balcony. On the streets, I was only looking for the red car. I can’t even explain to you why. I was probably born as a Ferrari fan without knowing it,” he shared.

“Best day of my life,” Charles Leclerc winning the race in front of the Tifosi
It was the Monegasque’s first season with Ferrari and the first race in Monza. He fought a fierce battle with both the Mercedes drivers and defended his way to the top of the podium for Ferrari on home soil, at a track filled in red by the Tifosi.
It was his second Formula 1 win and one of the most surreal experiences of his life. “It was the best day of my life, without a doubt. It was very, very special – so many people cheering for one team, the team I’m in – and such a special team, which is Ferrari,” said the Monegasque reliving the day.
Although Ferrari looks in much better shape this season compared to 2020, their chances of a race win look very slim.
