Apex Legends launched the highly anticipated Fight Night Collection event last week. The update introduced heaps of fresh content to the battle royale, alongside a slew of balance changes and bug fixes.
Patch notes for the Fight Night event featured some Legend-centric bugs that the update would address. One of these bug fixes revolved around an issue with Mirage’s decoys not generating footstep audio.
However, players noticed that the fix isn’t working as intended after the update went live on January 5. The good news is that the devs at Respawn are aware of the situation and are investigating it.
Apex Legends devs are checking the issue with Mirage’s decoys still not generating footstep sounds
Mirage is the ultimate trickster in Apex Legends. His ability kit generates equally handsome decoys of himself that bamboozle and distract the enemy. However, Mirage’s tricks can be countered with little difficulty because of certain tells, including the fact that his decoys don’t make footstep sounds like the real one.
So when Respawn confirmed that the Fight Night patch would make the trickster’s decoys’ footsteps audible, many in the Apex community interpreted the bug fix as a low-key buff. This change would make identifying the real Mirage more challenging, as opponents could no longer differentiate between the footsteps.
A player tweeted at Jason McCord, Respawn’s design director for Apex Legends, asking if the bug fix was implemented to Mirage’s decoys. This was because they could not hear the decoys generating footstep audio since the update, even when playing as Mirage.
McCord’s response was straightforward. All he said was, “I’m checking. Thanks for bringing it up.”
Given how complex fixing audio issues are, maybe it’s taking time for the devs to implement the changes on a full-scale. The design director’s reply is a clear indication that they are investigating the issue with the inaudible decoy footsteps.
Now that a player has pointed out that the Mirage bug fix is not functioning as intended, it’s safe to assume that the devs are aware of the situation and are looking into it. Hopefully, they get the bug fix up and running soon, as it will add an important element back to the bamboozler’s arsenal.
